RESEARCH INTERESTS:

The goal of my research is to better understand foraging and nesting preferences of solitary, cavity-nesting species of bees and wasps. I joined the Grozinger lab in the fall of 2022 and worked with Dr. Jaya Mokkapati performed experiments to understand foraging preferences in multiple species of bees as well as understanding pesticide toxicity in honey bees.

My current research focuses on nutritional and nesting preferences between Megachilid (leaf cutting bee) species, specifically, M. pugnata, M. rotundata, and M. sculpteralis. Additionally, I am investigating how surrounding landscape affects nutritional preferences within M. rotundata. To answer these questions, I have developed skills in insect identification and laboratory nutritional assays, specifically by looking at protein-lipid ratios in solitary bee pollen provisions.

Looking forward, I am interested in furthering my investigation into the foraging and nesting preferences of megachilid species, as well as other wild cavity nesting solitary bees. Additionally, I am interested in using my research to construct a guide for management of cavity nesting solitary species.
